Manure tea for your garden

Manure Tea

Plants like a cup of tea too! Only this tea has a stronger flavour than your favourite brew. Manure tea is a liquid fertiliser. It’s free and easy.

You can use any type of farmyard manure – no cats or dogs though! Poultry manure is one of the best types you can use. Don’t be too trigger happy when applying as it is pretty strong stuff.

Ingredients

  • Manure
  • Water

Method

Take your manure and fill up half a plastic bucket. Fill to the top with water. Put a lid on. It needs to have some air holes for ventilation. This needs to stew for 4 weeks. You need to give it a good stir once a week.

When you’re done dilute it down to 1 part tea / 10 parts water. Spray to base of your plants with your lovely brew.

You can strain your tea using burplap or a hessian bag. This might be a good idea if you are using horse manure as this can contain a lot of undigested seeds. Some people use a hessian bag from the start and hang it into the bucket like a manure tea bag.
