Make your own Shaving Oil
Most of us are used to buying big brand shaving gels and foams in the supermarket. Shaving oil is a great homemade alternative. You can use Shaving oil shave all the parts of the body you'd use foam or gel with (male or female!). To use just apply 3-5 drops to a wet face (more if it's your legs). For best results use after a hot shower.
Why make your own shaving oil?
The expense. Home made shaving oil can be made for a fraction of shop bought varieties.
The Environment. Shop bought shaving foams come in metal containers that get thrown into the bin. What a waste!
The Environment. Homemade shaving foam is kinder on the environment using only natural ingredients rather than chemicals created in the lab. You can try and use oils that are local to you. This can reduce your ‘shaving’ miles and carbon footprint.
Tailor made. By experimenting with different essentials oils you can make the perfect oil to suit your skin type.
How to make Shaving oil
It’s really easy and takes seconds to do. Here’s what you’ll need:
Equipment
- Glass or beaker
- Glass bottle for storage
- Funnel (not essential but helps)
Ingredients
4 table spoons of Base Oil - choose from:
- Grape seed oil
- Olive oil
- Coconut oil
- Palm oil
- Sweet almond oil
- Jojoba oil
10 drops of Essential Oil - choose from:
- Peppermint
- Clove
- Carrot seed
- Lavender
- Patchouli
- Rosemary
- Tea tree
- Chamomile
- Thyme
- Sandalwood
Method
Just pour your oil in to the glass or beaker. Add your drops. If your not sure which to try why use 5 drops of tea tree and 5 of peppermint for a soothing blend. Give it a good stir.
Pour into your bottle and your done!
A word of caution - use of some essential oils are not advised when you have particular medical conditions such as Hypertension or if you are pregnant. Make sure you always check first.
